Laser Vision Correction LASIK / PRK

We would like to take this opportunity to provide you with the most accurate and honest information available about laser procedures (which have now been performed over three million times worldwide), and to discuss why we can provide the best, most comprehensive care available.

Discover a world beyond glasses and contacts...

Auburn Eye Care Associates is one of the most experienced and successful laser vision correction practices in Northern California. Dr. Robert Belajic, Dr. David Norcott and Dr. Daniel Belajic, laser-certified optometrists, have extensive training and experience managing laser vision correction patients. Dr. H. Douglas Cooper, a leading micro surgeon in the Sacramento area, is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and has received recognition nationally as one of the top 50 refractive surgeons in the US. We are proud to have been among the original founders of the Laser Eye Center (LEC) in Sacramento in 1997. LEC uses only the most sophisticated, superior excimer lasers available. This advanced technology provides a phenomenal computerized tracking system for all types of vision correction.

We have performed more than 3000 laser vision procedures on our patients in the Auburn area. In fact, we have so much confidence in LVC, that many of us have undergone procedures ourselves: Dr. and Mrs. Belajic, Dr. Norcott, several staff members and/or their spouses, and numerous local physicians are among our successful and happy LVC patients. We can provide you with the best care possible: the convenience of all pre-op and post-op care completed locally, and the talent and skills of experts in their fields. We take no shortcuts, and do not offer cut-rate services. Our patient’s visual outcome is our primary concern, and therefore we recommend frequent pre-op visits to our office to obtain the most accurate and precise information possible to be fed into the computer that controls the laser. We also see our patients frequently after the procedure to check on their recovery, and to fine-tune the results as needed with medications.

LASIK (Laser Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis)

In the LASIK procedure, an instrument called a microkeratome is used to create an ultra thin flap (about the thickness of a human hair) on the outer surface of the cornea, so that the Excimer Laser can then be used to re-shape the underlying corneal tissue as needed. The result is a dramatic improvement in your vision.

PRK (Photo-Refractive Keratectomy).

With PRK, the surface cells that provide a protective layer to the eye's cornea (the epithelium) is first removed by the surgeon and then the excimer laser is used to remove a predetermined amount of tissue. LASIK has replaced PRK as the laser procedure of choice for most patients today.

ASA

In the Advanced Surface Ablation (ASA) procedure, "Modern PRK", the outer layer of the cornea, called the epithelium, is brushed off. The Excimer Laser is then used to reshape only the outermost layer of the cornea. Unlike LASIK, this procedure uses no microkeratome blade and no incision is made in the cornea. The epithelium reforms in a few days to continue to provide its protective function. The Advanced Surface Ablation (ASA) procedure "LASEK" (or "E-LASIK") is like Modern PRK, but the epithelial layer is loosened with a solution, which allows the layer to be gently folded back while the laser treatment is performed. The epithelium is smoothed back across the front of the cornea to allow for a more comfortable healing process.
