MEDICAL vs. VISION INSURANCE
- Insurance companies require all eye care providers to differentiate between:
- Medical Eye Services - Medical based visits that include specific tests for medical eye problems including: cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, conjunctivitis, etc. Treatments may include eye medications, in-office medical procedures or surgery.
- Routine Vision Care - These annual eye examinations include vision checks and general eye screenings. Treatments often include glasses, contact lenses, or laser vision correction surgery.
- Medical eye health problems are often discovered on routine eye exams.
- Also, symptoms or conditions that were thought to be a medical eye condition may end up being vision related.
- Depending on the purpose of your visit, diagnostic testing, symptoms, and necessity of services, either your vision or medical insurance may be billed on that day.
- Please feel free to contact our billing department if you have any questions.
